Dan Morguloff was a loving husband, father, Papa, and friend. Born in New York on April 25, 1923 to Riva and Boris Morguloff, he spent most of his younger years in New Jersey. He enlisted in the army and served in the infantry during World War II. After graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Wayne University, he loaded his belongings into a 1949 Dodge, left Detroit, and came to Texas with $5,000 and great expectations.
After establishing Republic Industries, a successful importing company, his lifetime goal was to provide a legacy for his family. He accomplished this by purchasing land leaving a 75 year income stream for his family. He was a visionary, staying ahead of the curve with new innovative products and ideas. In 1960 he was granted a patent for a jet thrust reversal system. At the time he was also working on a system he hoped to patent that could harvest energy from ocean tides.
Dan's business associates knew him as a man of integrity, dependability, and fierce honesty. He raised the bar for devotion to his family as well as to many extended families. His generosity was unsurpassed and he was well known in the community. He was active in the Temple Emanu-el brotherhood. One of his favorite endeavors was to chair the Christmas mitzvah program. He was active at the Jewish Community Center, playing aerial tennis with his cronies regularly. His competitiveness was only matched by his wife, Martha, who reminisces that their only fight was when Dan encroached on her side of the tennis court.
Dan had a passion for skiing. He introduced his family to snow skiing in the early 70's. Aspen was the family's favorite vacation destination. He insisted on staying at the same hotel every visit and always requested the same rooms for over 30 years. He was also an avid water skier and loved the lake. In this family you learned to ski as soon as you could walk. Even when it was too cold to water ski, Dan would persuade his family to accompany him just for the boat ride. If his family chose not to go he would take his elderly mom or the dog. He created his own playmates and best friends who passed down the love for skiing to their children.
Dan was resilient, hardworking and would do anything for the people he loved. Till the end, Papa made everyone laugh and smile. Dan was the husband who would hear music and stop what he was doing to dance with his wife. He was the father that would work hard so that his children would never want anything. He was the Papa that showed up for soccer games and piano recitals. Everything he did was for family, and he never thought twice about it.
