Ms. Danie'le Woodrow was born in Lake View Terrace, CA to Carolyn Jean Bailey and Henry Leroy Woodrow (deceased) on January 13, 1964. She was raised in the San Fernando Valley and loved and adored her brother Abraham Barnes Jr. Danie'le was affectionally known for her candid sense of humor that would cause others to instinctively know how authentic she was and how timely her words of wisdom and encouragement were. She was a woman who overcame much as a child and in her young adult years that would shape her career and bend her life toward helping others in domestic violence as a survivor herself, disadvantaged childhoods, and health challenges. Her grandmother Pearl Bailey held a special place in her heart and was instrumental in her personal and professed faith in Christ and unwavering assurance of God. She leaves the loving memory of wife to Claude Shelton (deceased), motherhood to Janelle Taylor-Broadous (Kenneth), Monique Shelton (Blevins), Michael Shelton (deceased); Patrick Shelton and sisters; regards for Arthur Kyle (Frances & Poppy); her mother Carolyn Jean Woodrow (West Hills, CA); brother Abraham Barnes Jr. (Marcia, Destony), close and loving cousins, aunts, and uncles, 3 grandchildren (Emmanuel, Isaac, and Faith), and 1 great-granddaughter.
She was a confidant, friend, auntie, cousin, niece, sister, daughter, co-worker, teacher, maestra, momma, and Nana to us. She could always make something out of nothing. Her love for Motown records, poetry, singing, and dancing gave us a glimpse into her heart. She maximized the opportunity to make memorable what others often overlooked. She lived in the moment. She loved being a mother and was proud of the home she provided for her family. She sought to advance in her professional life and selflessly poured herself into the next generation for over 3 decades. Her impact on inner city children and youth was monumental in the San Fernando Valley, CA area. Particularly dearest to her heart were the years she worked at Maclay Middle School. It was while she worked 1 full-time and 2 part-time jobs in education as a single mother just to make ends meet, that she aspired to sit on the Board of Education in California. That grand aspiration was how she went to work each day. Her experience and expertise was instrumental in redeveloping the Special Education trainings, policies, and models within LAUSD and Future Transitions teaching and training children and families. Her impact crossed multi-generations and multi-ethnicities for over 3 decades in the San Fernando Valley.
After surviving 2 massive brain aneurysms and a stroke in her 30's and 40's Danie'le would experience again the very present assurance of God as she bravely weathered stage 4 cancer. When so many others would have thrown in the towel, walked away from God, and given up she trusted the Lord until the very end, she would often say "I feel chosen" and 'the Lord is making me stronger" still finding opportunity to share her faith and salvation as she did with probably hundreds of people in her life. Danie'le was authentic, she was an overcomer, she was stronger than she was ever broken, but most importantly she was a child of God, and she never lost her faith in God.
She retired from 36 years of Special Education with Los Angeles Unified School District on January 13, 2022 (her last earthly birthday) and she walked into her eternal rest at home in Texas with her daughter (Janelle), son -in-love(Kenneth), dearly loved grandchildren (Emmanuel, Isaac, and Faith) and great-granddaughter (Diana) by her side, at 2:30 pm June 3, 2022. "Amazing Grace how sweet the sound..."
