

United States Navy Retired Senior Chief Petty Officer
Darren Wayne Tousaint was born January 18, 1967 in Los Angeles, California to Mack and Gloria Tousaint. As a child, he attended Friendly Baptist Church in Los Angeles under Reverend K.D. Friend. At the age of 16, the family moved from Los Angeles to Shreveport, Louisiana. He then went on to attend First Baptist Church of Shreveport. Later he united with Church of Christ where he was a member for the last 30 plus years.
He was a natural athlete and enjoyed many accolades in Track and Football. Darren was also very bright and achieved academic accomplishments as well. Darren was a proud member of the graduating class of the 1985 Woodlawn High School Knights in Shreveport, Louisiana. He went on to attend Northeast University in Monroe, Louisiana before enlisting in the United States Navy February 10, 1987.
Darren married his high school sweetheart, Tammy Townsend Tousaint, on July 3, 1987. To this union a sweet daughter was born, Darren-a Tia Loni Tousaint, was born.
He traveled the world and served his country greatly by serving in the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaigns. Darren rose through the ranks and achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He retired from the United States Navy on September 30, 2012 with full military honors.
Darren was known by his kind, gentle and giving nature. He was very loving to those who he knew and kind to those he did not know. Darren never complained during his treatments, transplants and therapy, but endured them all with his strong spirit. Even through his illness, on June 24, 2016 he fulfilled a 30 year promise to his parents by completing his Bachelor’s degree at DeVry University.
On November 3, 2016, Darren finished his earthly spiritual journey and was called home to the Lord after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Those left to cherish his memory forever include his wife, Tammy Tousaint; daughter, Darren-a Tia Tousaint; his parents, Mack and Gloria Tousaint; his sister and brother-in-law, Nicole and Rickey Phillips; his sisters-in-law, Deborah Townsend, Sophia Wilson, Tommie James and Heidi Mosley; his brother-in-law, Sylvester McGlothurn III; Godparents, William and Rosalie Raymond; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
