

A 20-year veteran of the United States Army, David spent most of his career serving overseas as the voice of AFN Europe (American Forces Network) to include Korea, Thailand, Panama, Belgium and Germany. He also served stateside to include the Pentagon. Somewhere along the way he picked up the nickname "Lips Malone", and it stuck. He was known far and wide for his quick wit and legendary one liners. He loved to say he " had a face for radio" and will always be remembered for his motto: "Dignity at all costs"! (not to forget the extended finger). He was loved and respected by coworkers and friends worldwide.
After retirement David became the voice of the Texas State Railroad Polar Express in Palestine, TX for over 10 years. Much to the delight of his family. his voice still narrates the annual Christmas event.
What he treasured most were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were truly the light of his life.
David was preceded in death by his wife Ingrid Malone of Germany.
He survived by his daughter Ronni Gallina (Nino) of Palestine, TX and his son Jeffery Malone (Lisa) of Palestine, TX.
Granddaughters Chelsi Graham (Tyler) of Aubrey, TX, Victoria Dyson (Brian) of Baltimore, MD and Sydney Herrington (Christian) of Palestine, TX.
Twin great grandsons Hudson Michael and Lincoln David Herrington and great granddaughter Lily Amelia-Rose Dyson.
"Daddy", "Dad", "Papaw", "Lips" or just "Dave"- a generous man full of love, laughter and a perfect example of a life well lived...
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to The Hospice of East Texas 4111 University Blvd Tyler, TX 75701. They loved and cared for him so well.
A Visitation Hour will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232, on April 8, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232, on April 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A Committal Service will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 South R.L.Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232, on April 8, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm followed by a catered reception in our facilities.
