On October 10, 2017, David Artie Walker, Sr. of Duncanville, TX, passed away at the age of 69. He was born January 2, 1948, in Wichita, KS, and was preceded in death by his father, Roy W. Walker, and mother, Bonnie Jean Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Bettye Hilburn; sister, Susan Purcell-Stephens and husband Larry of Duncanville, TX; sons David, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Pensacola, FL, Phillip and wife Fawn of Red Oak, TX; daughter, Tracey Goad of Miesau, Germany; 6 grandchildren, Britany Walker, US Navy, of Jacksonville, FL; Shane Walker of Abilene, TX; Travis Goad, US Air Force, of Little Rock, AR, Trevor Goad of Miesau, Germany, Darby Walker of Pensacola, FL, and McKenzy Walker of Pensacola, FL; many cousins and numerous friends.
After graduating high school in 1966, he became a member of the Duncanville Fire Department as a Firefighter, EMT and Water Rescue Team Member for 10 years. While working at the Fire Department he was also proud to carry on the family Venetian Blind business started by his paternal grandparents, passed down to his parents and then him. His children, wife, and multiple other family members worked for him, you could not work with him. What he didn’t like in the machinery he used, he changed and then started building the machinery with his own brand. His machinery has been sold all over the world and he was very proud of his accomplishments. Nothing made him happier than helping someone else with their ideas for machinery and making it a reality.
He loved to work and worked to play, his motto could have been rules were made to be broken. Sometimes that was good and sometimes bad. You should have felt honored if you were invited into his sandbox. He was a multi-talented man with many hobbies, including leather work, woodworking, SCUBA diving, gardening (some cuts from out of the country and smuggled back home just to see if he could make them work). David and Charlotte took numerous diving and snorkeling adventures all over the world, they truly enjoyed their Golden Years, which overflowed from their late 40’s into their 60’s. He was part of the stock car racing scene with D & D Racing and, most recently, the Vice President of The Cruisers Club of Red Oak, TX, where he loved to show off his restored ’65 Mustang.
