Demetria “Candy” Shonetta Roque was born in Dallas, Texas, Dallas County, to the parentage of Robert Thomas Okra and Linda Gail Roque. She received her formal education at Law Magnet High School and PSI, where she obtained her associates degree as a certified respiratory therapist. She worked at Medical City Dallas as a respiratory therapist for 10 years. She accepted Christ at an early age at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She later became a member of Bon Air Baptist Church under the pastoral care of Tracy Mitchell. Despite her health challenges, she continued to attend church regularly, when she was not hospitalized. Demetria was a very special, kind-hearted, and giving person. Demetria constantly put others first in her unwavering generosity. Demetria was a lover of shopping and the finer things in life. She worked tirelessly and endlessly to care for others, even when she didn’t feel up to it. Demetria was strong and humble woman, who was loved my many. But most of all, she loved the Lord and lived her life through HIM. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas Okra Jr. and Zola Mae Okra; and her uncle/brother, Gerry Roque. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her father, Robert Thomas Okra, and her mother, Linda Gail Roque; her grandparents, Elmo and Ruth Roque; her sister, Robyn Okra, and her brother, Derrius Roque; her uncles/brothers, Michael Roque and Kelvin Roque (Sonja); her aunt/sister, LaTonja Roque; special long-time friends, Jackie Garrett, Derek Dyson, Tina Roberts, Monica Sneed and Sonja Watkins; and aunts, uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Demetria will be missed by all.
