Dennis was born in Hutchinson, KS on October 24, 1942 to Morris and Eleanor Platt. As a child he was proud, confident, athletic, and smart. During his first pass as a college student, which included 4 years at the University of Kansas, he developed his lifelong devotion to Jayhawk basketball. His unique ability to find something more fun than going to class bounced him into the US Army where he had the great fortune to be stationed in the now defunct base in Oak Cliff, Texas. While successfully keeping the Viet Cong out of Dallas, he met his wife Kathleen. They were married in 1968.
Skeet, as he was known by anyone that met him after 1960, finished his Aeronautical Engineering degree from Wichita State University followed by a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from SMU. He was an amazing husband and father that was always there, always ready to play, and the first to volunteer when a coaching need arose. It did not matter that he knew nothing about soccer, because he knew how to learn and most importantly how to be a dad to every kid lucky enough to play for him.
Skeet worked for Texas Instruments for 30 years in the Defense Systems Engineering Group before retiring in 2002. After retiring he poured himself into golf, Habitat for Humanity, enjoying his backyard, and his two grandchildren.
Skeet’s generosity, humor, and his excellent skill with power tools will be sorely missed and his Jayhawk flag will fly at half-mast. His love for his family will be missed most of all.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen Platt; son Jeffrey Platt and daughter-in-law Sandra; and 2 grandchildren Alexandra and Carter.
A Memorial Service will be at 12:00 Noon on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scofield Christian School of Dallas, 7730 Abrams Road, Dallas Texas, 75231
