Don was born in Ellis County, Kansas on June 29, 1937, to parents Henry A. Hoff and Margaret E. (Munk) Hoff.
Don received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University. Upon graduation and completion of active military duty in the United States Army, he began his professional career at Boyer & Hagedorn Engineering, a consulting and engineering firm in Salina, Kansas. In 1970, he joined the Engineering Department with the City of Salina (Kansas). During his career with the City of Salina, he served as Director of both the Engineering and Utilities departments until his retirement from the City of Salina as Director of Utilities in January 2004. His professional affiliations included membership in the American Society of Civil Engineers, Kansas Society of Land Surveyors, and the Water Environment Federation.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Hoff; his brother, Henry “Lee” Hoff; his sister, Maida Hoff Waldman; and brother-in-law, Robert Waldman.
Don is survived by his wife, Pauline; daughter, Nancy Helms (Jason) and step grandchildren, Anastasia Helms, Gabriella Helms, and Jackson Helms, all of Dallas, Texas.
He is also survived by his sister, Odie Wilson (Don) of Plano, Texas; sister-in-law, Carol Hoff of Salina, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mass will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11am at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Don’s memory may be made to Kansas State University – College of Engineering, Christ the King Catholic Church (Dallas, Texas), or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (Salina, Kansas).
