Dee was born on May 17, 1951, in Kermit, Texas, to Oscar and Gaile Skurlock. She earned her GED and pursued further education, attending some college and obtaining her real estate license.
Over the years, Dee wore many hats and excelled at each of them. She worked for several years at Southwestern Bell, served as a dental assistant, became a licensed real estate agent, managed the deli at Tom Thumb Grocery, and eventually found a beloved role as a bartender. In addition to her many jobs, she co-owned several businesses, including a successful cleaning service with a friend and a profitable landscaping company.
Dee had many passions. She loved genealogy, astrology, cooking, social media, animal rights, music, and songwriting. One of her proudest accomplishments was writing a song that reached #6 on the Top 10 charts in Canada. She was also recognized and awarded by the police department for her investigative skills and her contributions to the investigation of her mother’s death. Dee was a survivor—she courageously battled and beat stage 4 lung cancer. Above all, Dee took immense pride in raising her two children and helping to raise her two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gaile Skurlock; father, Oscar Skurlock; stepmother, Norma Skurlock; son, Richard Kirkpatrick; brother, Stephen Skurlock; stepbrother, Dale Smith; grandmother, Phila Sniff; and nephew, Nathan Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Pace; grandson, Jacob Pace; granddaughter, Abby Fields; sister, Donna Kitzmiller; brother, Danny Skurlock; sister-in-law, Brenda Skurlock; niece, Lydia Skurlock; nephew, Dan-L Skurlock; and niece, Krista Kitzmiller.
A memorial and celebration of life will be held at 10 AM on May 15th, 2025, at Grove Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, the same resting place as her mother.
