

Doris Ross Threadgill was born in Alto, Texas on August 19, 1929. She was the fourth child of five siblings from the union of Newell Ross and Ellen Copeland Ross. Doris attended Alto Public Schools system and in Jacksonville, Texas as a young girl with her mother. She also spent time with her father, aunt and uncle in Alto before the family moved to Dallas. At an early age Doris accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She had been taught to worship and serve the Lord. Doris attended and joined Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Alto. She was Baptized in a creek and became a very faithful member.
Doris met and married Henry Smith on her 20th birthday. No children from her marriage. Doris and Henry then relocated to Sacramento, California for a short period of time.
Doris moved to Detroit, Michigan later to live with her sister and family.
One of the gifts God blessed her with was her ability to prepare delicious meals and in a short period time. She worked for a nursing home in Detroit and became the lead supervisor and cook in the dietary department. Doris loved to cook and entertain family and friends.
After a few years Doris returned to Dallas. She wanted to be closer to her mother. She and her brother worked in the dry cleaning business. There another gift and skill was developed for pressing clothes and organization and she was an impeccable homemaker.
Later she met and married, Elvis Threadgill. No children from her marriage.
Doris united with Olivet Baptist Church and was an active, devoted and faithful member for over fifty years. Doris loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She used her gift to Praise God by singing in the choir for many years and often would be a lead singer.
Doris also served on the Pastors Aide committee and the Mission Society.
Doris was an excellent at hair styling. She pursed a career in cosmetology and graduated from school with her license.
She opened her own salon in her home by remodeling an area attached to her home.
Doris had a heart of Gold. She loved and was friendly with everyone. She never met a stranger. She also had quick wit and a great and funny sense of humor. Her laughter was infectious. She enjoyed traveling with her employers and her family and friends for fun times. Doris worked for the Wright's family for 55 years and was committed and dedicated to her job.
Doris enjoyed her life and always was available to help someone else in need. She was a champion level player of Dominoes, Bid Whist and loved to beat her niece at Gin Rummy.
Doris was a private person and occasionally she could reveal her feisty temperament when necessary. She embodied the essence of Christ as a servant. Doris was a mother to the motherless, friend to the friendless, always had a home for the homeless and loved her family deeply. She will be forever remembered and missed in the hearts of everyone that knew her. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. She was a student of the word and now she is resting peacefully with her creator, her heavenly Father. She leaves to mourn her departure from this earthly vessel to her new heavenly vessel in the kingdom of God.
Doris leaves to cherish her precious memory of her special daughter, Charmaine; four grandchildren, Jermaine, Jermah, Jordan and Germany; nieces, Cleverlon, Lachandra, (Joel, Nakelon, Emmanuel, Zakiyyah) Andre and Kathy ( Ben); nephews, Freddie Lee and Cyruss (Brenda), fourteen grand nieces and nephews and a host of great great nieces and nephews family and friends; Nancy Holifield her dearest friend and confidant; four grand nieces, Myracle (Eli, Iria), Vershundria (Cordez), Denisha (Serenity, Saxton), Natisha (LaDarius, Rayshawn) and Doris special godson, Robert ( Bobby) Gibson of Detroit, Michigan.
