

Dorothy Jean Hashem Prater, age eighty-six, died peacefully on November 11th, 2016 at her home in Mesquite, Texas. Dorothy was born on October 15, 1930, in Austin, Texas, the daughter of Hashem Joseph Hashem and Mona Lisa Hashem. Dorothy enjoyed playing the piano. At an early age, she had won a number of awards. She graduated from Austin High School in 1948. She attended the Seton School of Nursing and graduated in 1951. Dorothy worked at Seton Hospital in Austin and was the face of Seton on a billboard in north Austin for years. Dorothy met Guy H. Prater at Seton Hospital in 1953, and married in 1956. They recently celebrated their sixty year anniversary. Soon after, they moved to Dallas, where she worked at St. Paul Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center. Dorothy also enjoyed being a loving mom, caring housewife, and a damn good cook. Dorothy was a member of St. Pius X church in Dallas for over fifty years. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Guy, children Michael and Diane, grandchildren John Paul, Kristen, Adam, Samantha, Kevin, Joshua and Rylee, and a great-grandchild, Simon; many nieces and nephews, a number of other relatives and close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Anna Mae, brother, Donald, and son John. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 15, from 6p-8pm with Rosary at 7pm, at Sparkman-Crane Funeral, Dallas Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Wednesday, November 16, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas,Texas. Burial at Sacred Heart in Rowlett following the service.
