

ED VAZQUEZ, of Dallas, Texas, passed away this week at the age of 83. Ed was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ed graduated from Fordham University in New York in 1949, and served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. On February 22, 1951, Ed married Angie Garcia, his beloved wife of 59 years, in San Juan. Ed was employed as an air traffic controller with the FAA for 28 years, first in San Juan, later in Memphis, TN, Jacksonville, FL, and finally Knoxville, TN where Ed retired as a supervisor. After his retirement from the FAA, Ed and Angie moved to Dallas in 1988 to be closer to their grandchildren. In addition to Angie, Ed is survived by his 3 children: son Edgardo Vazquez of Dallas, daughter Sylvette Mitchell and husband Patrick Mitchell, also of Dallas, and son Al Vazquez of Atlanta, GA, and 8 grandchildren: Edgardo Vazquez, Jr. of Dallas, Mariela and Gabriela Vazquez of San Juan, PR; Danielle, Michael and Brian Mitchell of Dallas; and Candice and Cristina Vazquez of Atlanta. Ed and Angie were devoted parishioners of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lake Highlands. Ed was passionate about time with his grandchildren, baseball, and aviation. He is loved by his family and friends, and will be missed by many. The family will greet friends following the Rosary which will be at 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 6, at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Road, Dallas. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 7, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale, Dallas, Rev. Josef Vollmer-Konig, Presider.
