Edgar Lee Smith 87, passed away on April 1, 2014. He was born on January 30, 1927 to Roy V. Smith and Ethel George Smith. One of those rare people, Edgar was born, lived his life and died in Dallas, TX. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII. Later he earned a BA from Southern Methodist University and an MA from the University of Texas Austin. A collector of plants of all kinds, Edgar was particularly interested in Bromeliads. He served as President of Bromeliad Society International (BSI), a worldwide organization that began in 1951 and has collected and disseminated information about Bromeliads and their culture. Edgar was active for many years and served as president of the Dallas Bromeliad. He was also a collector of quality antiques of all types. Over the years he had built quite a collection of Bromeliads and antiques. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roy V. Smith, Jr. He is survived by other family and many friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 -2:00 pm followed by a graveside service at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
