Edna Lee Winn Benson was born into the union of the late Daniel Sr. and Emmaline Coleman Winn on September 3, 1919 in Limestone County, Texas. She was the fifth of five children. Her siblings to this union, Floyd, A.L., Ruth, and Jenia Mae proceeded her in death. She also was blessed with other siblings, Rufus, Edward, Daniel Jr., Jessie Mae and N. T., who have also entered into eternal rest. Early in life, Edna met and married Shannon Benson. She later married Edward S. Bailey. Both proceeded her in death. Edna confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. Upon moving to Dallas, she united with the Allen Chapel Baptist Church. She later became a member of the Greater Golden Gate Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Fabian Jacko. Upon moving to Austin with her family, she united with the Rosewood Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Coby Shorter, III. She remained a faithful member until her earthly transition. Upon moving to the Dallas area, Edna warmed the hearts and homes of many families and friends. She spent many years as a caregiver in the Fine-Cartell Home and held a fond place in her heart for the daughters of the family, Lauren, Rachel and Rebecca. During the sunset years of her life, Edna moved to Austin to live with niece Sue Amos and her family. Affectionately known as “Auntie,” she brought great joy, gave sage advice and melted the hearts of others with her pleasant outlook on life. On October 7, 2015, God said, “Well Done.” Edna Lee Winn Benson closed her eyes and stepped into eternity knowing that those who had gone before her would welcome her home. Those left to cherish her joyous life include: a devoted niece, Sue Amos, Austin, Texas; a step son, Edward S. Bailey, Dallas, Texas; a step daughter, Nettie White, Endio, California; sisters-in-law, Barbara Winn, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Helen Winn, Los Angeles, California, and Betty Winn, Odessa, Texas; a special pizza buddy and great nephew Justin Cavil, Pflugerville, Texas; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
