Edward Avalos Sr., age 78 went to his Lord and Savior on Sunday January 19, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Edward was born Sunday July 13, 1941 in Bracketville, Texas to Modesta (Towns) Avalos and Castulo Avalos.
Edward "Lalo" Avalos grew up in Brackettville, Texas and was the 4th of 7 siblings. As a child he was an Alter Server and a Boy Scout. At an early age he was already known as a jokester which carried on into adulthood. He later moved to Lamesa, Texas.
He graduated from Lamesa High School and then attended the Texas Barber College in Austin, Texas.
Edward has been a Barber since 1957 and owned and operated Abbotts Barber Shop and received numerous awards and acknowledgements for having one of the Best Barber Shops in Dallas, Texas. In his several years of barbering he has cut the hair of several dignitaries, politicians and clergy.
Edward Avalos married the love of his life and best friend Odelia Cavazos on Saturday May 4, 1963 in Big Springs, Texas. They celebrated 56 years of marriage this past year. Together they had 3 amazing children.
He was a devout Catholic and attended St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1971. He was Lead Usher at the 8 AM Sunday Mass. He also evangelized our beautiful Catholic devotion, the Rosary, to countless people.
Edward "Lalo" loved to travel, fish, hunt, BBQ, photography and most of all spending time with his beloved family. He loved all kinds of music from 50s music, Tejano Music, Polka Music and Elvis Presley. His favorite place to be when he wasn't with his family was taking a nap on the recliner with his dog, Pepper Jack Jones.
He had a heart that was larger than life! He had respect and compassion for the less fortunate, bedbound and those who served our Nation's Military and law enforcement. He had a strong work ethic and was a very successful business man. He always made sure his family's needs were met. He had a smile that made your day and a great sense of humor.
