

Evelyn Nix, age 95, a longtime Dallas resident died at her home on February 7, 2010 following a lengthy illness. Evelyn was born on October 12, 1914 in Clanton, Alabama to Mattie Emma Potts and Jesse Martin Nix. Later the family moved to Amarillo, Texas because of her mother's illness. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1933, she completed business courses at Fleming Business College in 1935 and was employed by Amarillo Insurance Agency. In January, 1941, she moved to Dallas to accept a position at New York Underwriters, a Hartford subsidiary. Evelyn worked for The Hartford until her retirement in 1976, after having served as Executive Secretary to several Regional Managers of the Hartford Southwestern Division. She was a longtime member of the Insurance Women of Dallas, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and volunteer at Gaston Episcopal Hospital. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Nix Windham and her brother-in-law Robert E. L. Windham. She is survived by her niece Sarah Evelyn Windham Sorrells, nephews Jesse Nix Windham and wife Sherry, Dr. Robert Lee Windham; great nieces Susan Leigh Sorrells and Laura Lee Sorrells, Mitzi Lea Windham Jones and husband John Paul, great nephew W. Zane Windham and wife Shelene and their children McKenzy Nix Windham, and Bryce and Shayne Campbell and special appreciation to Dr. Robert G. Munday. The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Mary Helen, Neema, Barbara and Cassaundra for their support, encouragement, love and concern. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 5923 Royal Lane, Dallas, Tx. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, care of the Dorothy Michaelsen Fund
