Floy Irene Richissin was born on the Richissin Family Dairy Farm, in Coshocton, Ohio. She and her slightly-older twin sister, Faye Eileen Richissin, were educated in Coshocton, Ohio, first at Bowman Braid Elementary School, and graduating from Roscoe High School in 1940. Floy then worked in all areas of the local Islay Dairy & Deli Store, where the Klondike Bar eventually originated.
After leaving there, she worked for The Pope-Gosser China Company, in Coshocton, OH, which was famous for making fine china. During those years, she was a member of Prairie Chapel Methodist Church, in Coshocton, and Bethlehem Grange Hall, in Coshocton County.
She then made the decision to follow her sister, Faye Eileen Richissin (Coon), into nursing school, to become an RN, by entering Coshocton City Hospital School of Nursing, affiliated with St. Elizabeth Hospital (Dayton, OH) and Massillon State Hospital. This is where Floy became known as ‘Richie’ – from the shortening of her last name.
Faye graduated a year before Floy, and moved to Dallas, Texas. After Floy graduated, she also moved to Dallas, in 1944, where she worked at Gaston Hospital, both on-staff and private-duty. At the hospital, she met Nicholi Bayah, an Army soldier who recently returned from World War II, and was there to visit an Army friend. They found love and married in 1946.
Later, she moved to the Veterans Administration Hospital, for five years, and did more private-duty, in all the major Dallas Hospitals of that era. She eventually returned to Gaston Hospital, and specialized in Recovery Room nursing.
She was a member of District 4 Texas Nurses Association, American Nursing Association, and Critical Care Nurses. A founding member of T.A.P.A.N. (Texas Association of Post Anesthesia Nurses), she was also a member of D.A.P.A.N. and A.A.P.A.N. She also obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Healthcare Management from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce).
After retiring from nursing, in 1987, she became a licensed Texas Real Estate Agent, and worked for Century 21, Ron Burch, and Whiteside Realtors.
She was a member of the Melton Sunday School and the Sew-n-Sews Quilting Club, at Oak Cliff United Methodist Church, in Dallas, Texas.
She was a member of the S.A.L.E.A. Club, the oldest Chapter in Texas of the Syrian Lebanese American Southern Federation Clubs.
She was a member of PTA, and was a Girl Scout Leader when her daughters were young. She attended many Community Continuing Education courses, including Millinery, Floral Arranging, Serving Tea, Lace Making, etc.
She believed a day she didn’t learn something was a day lost.
Floy is preceded in death by her husband Nicholi Bayah, her siblings Harold Richissin, Donald Richissin, Fred Richissin, and Faye Eileen Richissin Coon, and by parents John L. & Edna Marie Robinson Richissin.
She is survived by her two daughters, Martha “Mimi” Bayah Little (sp. Lynn Little) and Barbara “Bridget” Bayah Simpson (sp. Craig Simpson), by her five grandchildren, Michael Simpson (sp. Susan Oliver Simpson), Kimberly Simpson Brown (sp. Aaron Brown), L. Mallory “Chip” Little, II, (sp. Sara Little), Andrea Nicole “Nicki” Simpson Sims (sp. Austen Sims), and Lanna Little Felde (sp. Ryan Felde); and by her great grandchildren, Kaleigh and Keldon Brown, and Brooklyn, Sawyer, Camryn, and Sydney Sims.
She will be dearly missed and warmly remembered by her family and friends.
