In Loving Memory

Francis Young Grubb, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Plano, Texas.

A devoted husband, father, and provider, Francis prized logical reasoning and was widely loved for his manner and his wit. He was deeply loved and respected by his family. He cherished annual summer road trips with Lucile, his wife of 52 years, and their two boys. Francis and Lucile enjoyed playing bridge and following the Dallas Cowboys. Francis also was an avid contest and sweepstakes entrant (and frequent winner! especially with contests requiring clever or pithy writing).

He was born on July 19, 1931, in Vinita, Oklahoma, and raised in nearby Tulsa. From modest beginnings, and with the steadfast support of his hard-working mother, he rose to earn a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, he was active in ROTC. When he graduated, he married Lucile before beginning two years of military service in the U.S. Army.

Following his discharge, Francis began a career with Shell Oil, working in various locations across Louisiana. At age 31, desiring a new career, he returned to school and earned a second bachelor’s degree—this time in accounting—from Southern Methodist University. After passing the CPA exam, he and his young family settled in Dallas, where he joined the accounting firm Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery (later Coopers & Lybrand, now part of PricewaterhouseCoopers).

His career took him next to Midland, Texas, with the firm Main Lafrentz, and then to Denver, Colorado, where he rejoined Coopers & Lybrand and eventually became a full partner. Francis concluded his distinguished career with the firm’s El Paso office before retiring and returning to Dallas with Lucile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Grubb and Monnie Mullinax Grubb; his wife, Lucile; and his sister, Francel Grubb Krisher. He is survived by his two sons: Alan Grubb of Carrollton, Texas, and Gene Grubb of Austin, Texas.
