

Gabor (Gabi/Koko/Apic) Kovats, of Dallas, TX passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Gabor born in Budapest, Hungary on June 12, 1933 to Gabor and Marta Kovats. He escaped Communism in 1956 and finally in 1957 made it to America, and was sent to St. Petersburg, where his sister was already living. He received a full tuition scholarship from SMU and graduated in 1962. He married Magdolna Baliko on June 2, 1962 - they were married for 57 years. After having two children, the family moved to Dallas, TX. Gabor enjoyed many things including watching SMU Mustangs sporting events and attending homecoming events, watching soccer, dancing to big band music, eating anything his wife made, attending operas, going out to eat to celebrate anything and everything. Additionally, he loved to travel and got the opportunity to move back to Europe for a short time to work and was able to travel and see many countries.
Survivors include: one son Gabor Kovats and wife Mary Anne of Little Rock, AR; one daughter Magdalena Brady and husband Jay of Dallas, TX; one sister, Marta DiCarlo of Centennial, CO; and many nieces, nephews, along with great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Magdolna Kovats, parents, Gabor and Marta Kovats, brother and sister in-law, Istvan and Donna Kovats, brother-in-law, Robert DiCarlo, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rosary will be held on September 18, 2021 at 1:00 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home North Chapel. Mass of Catholic burial will be held immediately afterwards Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home North Chapel officiated by Father Julius Leloczky from the Cistercian Monastery.
