To Gerardo's Family: 

I have and always will keep you all in my prayers. Gerardo was the first person I met at UNT. As wonderful of a friend that he was, I'm sure he was an even better son, brother, cousin, and nephew. No one will ever replace him. He's one of a kind. Always knew how to bring a smile to someone's face whether it was his sense of humor or his dance moves. There are songs on the radio today that I can easily and vividly imagine Gerardo dancing to. I was blessed to know him, to call him my friend, to experience college with him. I miss him constantly and know you all do too. I just want you to know, you are wonderful people who raised an incredible man. His impact on me and everyone who knew him will live on forever. Thank you for that. My deepest condolences to you all. As I said, I will continue to keep you in my prayers.

Gerardo, I didn't know you all that well but we rode the same bus home from Townview. You were always so happy, bubbly, and always smiling;may you rest in eternal peace.

To Gerardo's Family, 

I've said all I need to say to Gerardo before he was laid to rest; thank you for allowing me that opportunity. The last time I saw him, we agreed to finally take a road trip together after I graduate in May, we played pool together, and leaving, he gave me a hug and told me he loved me. And I told him "You too, duh!" 
I can't put into words the amount of love and compassion your son had for the people he claimed as friends. He was always there to talk to, laugh with, cry with, just to be in company with; he'd discuss pretty much anything with you and keep it real always. Gerardo was calm-natured and warm, he was the person who's apartment I'd sneak away to when my mind was running and I needed a friend. Even after I moved away from Denton and lots changed in both of our lives, our friendship didn't skip a beatwe always sent each other funny memes or tumblr quotes that reminded us of each other and made sure to catch a movie or lunch at Pollo Regio (our spot!) when we could. One thing I'll never forget about Gedo was how he would order fries at PR and cover them in pepper haha I always thought it was so odd. Because of him, I now know that kolaches come without cheese and where to find them! 

The thing is, Gerardo was one of a kind. He was dynamic, stunningly handsome, so kind, genuine, curious, and somehow without even trying or knowing that he did, he changed my life and the lives of so many others. He will be missed, and I am so sorry for your loss. I am praying for Gerardo and your family, and I hope that in his loss you'll find peace.

My heart got heavy and sadness goes out to your family. Yet I believe as (Roman's 14:8) when you, Gerardo live, you live for the Lord and when you die, you die for the Lord, so wether you live or die, you belong to the Lord. As you are in heaven with my son Kevin Cao, taking care of us all left on earth.

Hey buddy. I've been thinking about you everyday, and I probably will for a long time. Even when I do come to accept this, you're still gonna be in my heart. You've motivated me in so many ways, i wish i could tell you all of it. Anyways, I miss you, brother. I hope I can someday enrich even half as many lives as you did. Rest easy. I love you man.

Even though we didn't talk as much as I would've liked, I knew you since Bethune elementary and had a few classes with you at Townview. You were always so cheerful so smiling. Everyone knew you because you were so friendly... May you rest in peace forever.

I feel lucky to have crossed paths with you Gerardo. You were so easy to talk to and always smiled and joked around. I will forever cherish those memories. You were loved by many people and we will all miss you terribly. I hope you are now finally resting in peace, my friend. ❤

I hope that you are resting peacefully Gigo. I was able to make it through your beautiful mass service without crying but once they started lowering you at the burial, it hit me that i would never see you again until heaven. Watch over your family and friends and I thank God for letting us meet.

I was going through old messages today, and I found one you sent me. I was going through a really difficult time and you said "I wish I could be there for you" and I couldn't help but tear up. I am so happy to have known someone so caring, even after life got in the way and we didn't talk for a while. You were still so supporting and I knew if I needed someone to talk to, you'd be there. Your kind heart is something I will always remember. Your smile in all the photos of you still light up my heart and your vibrance and life will always be with me. I will always push myself to be a better person for those around me because of you. Thank you for everything, and keep an eye on all of us up there. <3

Gerardo, thank you for always having a kind word to say. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to meet you and work with you at Camp Zeke.

Words can't describe the void left in our hearts now that you're gone. We miss you Gerardo. You were such a wonderful person and you touched more lives than you realized. Just a few days before his death I had Gerardo as my Uber driver. From that short car ride I could tell he was a great person who had accomplished a lot. He also had good taste in music. R.I.P May God be with his family and strengthen them during this time.

I think that the world has lost a great soul, and Heaven has found a great angel.

It was an honor to be just one of the many people that you allowed into your life. I feel you around me and I know that you are watching over me and all of those that loved you deeply, especially your family. I just want to thank you for everything. I have our memories playing in my head over and over again, and then I remember something else random we did. Even though I never had the privilege of knowing you and being your friend, the few times you would say hi to me in the hallways of Townview were enough for me to realize the the type of person you were, a great and humble man. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Gerardo.

Gerardo was, and remains, the sweetest, kindest, most compassionate person I was ever blessed to call a friend. He was such an amazing person with a huge heart who continuously put others first. He had nothing but love and laughs to give to those around him. Even in death he continues to make this world a better place and continues to make me a better person. I considered him family so word of his passing was devastating to me. However, it's just further proof that God picks the prettiest of flowers, the most pure hearts, and the most beautiful souls first. I miss you tremendously Gerardo. I love you. Until we meet again.

Gerardo always tried his best to make me happy while I knew him in highschool. He loved drawing and sent me some of his drawing before I even got to officially meet him because he heard from someone that I loved the way he drew. He really is the sweetest person I will ever know. Even when he went to UNT he still remembered me and took the time to talk to me. I'll miss you!

We pretty much grew up together if you really think about it. Going to L.O Donald, Stockard, then catching up after high school at Jose's place were some of the best moments with you. You remember that night me, you and Erik went to Hyenas? We were laughing so hard it was hard for us to breathe. It was literally a night to remember because that's the most I seen you laugh. I'm really gonna miss you bro, no matter what you'll always be a brother to me. Rest easy Gerardo, say hi to Mari for me. God Bless

Cousin! We miss you. You impacted so many lives in so little time. Family events will no longer be the same. I know you'll see me walk that stage following your footsteps . Love you! Watch over all of us❤

Gigo, no words can express losing you. Young, intelligent, adventurous, and great spirit all the time. Always on the right track. I will always remember you as the smart man you are. We will deeply miss you and never forget you. You were family and it will be hard to get used to not seeing you again, but I hope you are at peace! We will always love you and remember you.

Gerardo, Best Friend, I'm going to miss you tons. I know you wouldnt want me crying for you but I can't imagine life without you. Every time I went to Dallas I would see you and every time you came to San Antonio you would see me. I love you and will always think of you and still visit you every time I visit.

My friend, we shared some of the best times and your spirit always lifted me up. My heart is hurting, but i will forever be thankful for meeting a kind soul like you. I love you always.

Gerardo had such a deeply thoughtful and genuinely kind approach to others that you felt instantly glad that people like him can exist in the world. He brought that presence to RHAB 4375, and those of us who did not get the chance to know him long or well are indescribably sorry to know that presence is gone. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones, and I am so, so sorry for your loss.

Please know that your Denton County MHMR Family will miss you greatly and has been deeply touched by your gentle spirit and sweet soul.

You were an amazingly creative and loving young man. You will be remembered and missed. I am grateful to have known you during your time at UNT.

I'll miss you bud. You were always a joy to be around. I will always remember the great times we had, even though now it seems like the time we spent together was very short. I love you man.
