

Gladys M. Koenig was born in Chicago, IL, the sixth child of William and Johanna Koenig. Growing up her life was shaped by the Great Depression and World War II. During the war Gladys met Leon VanCompernolle at a USO Dance at the Great Lakes Naval Air Station. When the war ended Gladys and Leon were married in Waukeegan, IL on January 28, 1946. Gladys and Leon moved to Kansas City, MO to begin their life together. Gladys was a wonderful wife and a devoted mother to her children. She had a wonderful sense of style that was reflected in the décor of her home and the clothes she wore. Gladys and Leon enjoyed traveling; spending time together, and with family on yearly trips. Upon retirement they traveled in their RV visiting 48 States and Canada.
Gladys and her friend Mildred Schrade delivered Meals on Wheels to the homebound in Topeka, KS for over 20 years. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka, KS and All Saints Catholic Community in Dallas, TX.
In 2006, Gladys and Leon celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage.
She is survived by; her daughter Linda and husband Tom Noller, three sons and their spouses; David and Lana, Paul and Mary, Brian and Kelly, grandchildren; Zachary, Ryan Lee, Jacob, Lauren, Larry and Alison Noller, Jim and Tiffany Noller, Joanne and Daniel Baham, Jason and Nikki Wynn, great grandchildren; Thomas and Sean Noller and Cora Lee Baham. She is preceded in death by her parents, her five siblings, Helen, Henrietta, William, Edward and Martin, and her beloved husband, Leon.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The Catholic Relief Fund, Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21297-0303 or the American Red Cross. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Tx. A Funeral Service will be at Sparkman/Hillcrest Chapel on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11:00 am with The Rev. Thomas Cloherty presiding. Interment will follow at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park.
