Helane Dodson was a cherished mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grand-mother, step-sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She went to be with the Lord as well as with a host of friends and family on March 29, 2010. We are rejoicing that she is hearing, ‘Well done, My good and faithful servant.” Helane was born on August 23, 1924, in Orange, Texas, the first child of Pansy and John Bruce. Her mother influenced her interest in dance, music, entertaining, gardening and cooking. On February 5, 1943, after a whirlwind courtship, she married handsome Naval Officer, Max Dodson. They were married until his death in 2000. Together, they enjoyed raising a family in Dallas as well as many summers at their cabin in Colorado. Studying the Bible was Helane’s passion. She attended and led many Bible studies over the years. Life changing bonds were formed in those groups through prayer, sharing and laughter. As the mother of four daughters, she excelled at shopping, holiday dinners and get togethers, and vacations in Colorado. We are grateful for her example of creativity and diligence. Helane appreciated the sons-in-laws her daughters brought into her life. Her favorite role was Grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and always wanted the best for them. She took the time to know and enjoy each one of them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Dodson; her brother, John Bruce; her sister-in-law, Margie Denton; niece Jenny Denton, nephews Harry Lee McGlothlin and Larry McGlothlin. Helane is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Margaret and Bill Hollingsworth, Cathy and John Edwards, Laurel and John Glenn, and Pansy and Elliott Flick: her grandchildren: Renee and Matt Hollingsworth, Allison Hollingsworth and fiance Ken Lowery, Rebecca and Michael Edwards, Mark Edwards, Lauren Flick and Elise Flick: great-grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Kevin & Brenden Hollingsworth, Skylar and Jay Edwards; step-sister, Lois McGlothlin, sister-in-law, Debra Bruce and many nieces and nephews. Helane’s family is grateful for the loving support from the staff and friends at CC Young, her loyal family at Town North Bible Church, her neighbors on Martha Lane, Kaye Warrick, and lifelong friend, Doris Hubbard. You all made her life even richer. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010, 6-8pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 10am, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pansy Nelson Vrooman Endowed Scholarship, Del Mar College Foundation, 101 Baldwin, Corpus Christi, Texas 78404.
