She was born in Jacksonville, Cherokee County Texas. She was the second child born to Thomas and Willie Raye Harris she was proceeded in death by her siblings, Cleophus, Earnest, Jerelene, Wanda, and Mary.
Mrs. Helen G. Green and her family moved to Tyler Texas from Jacksonville, Texas in 1942, here she attended TJ Austin Elementary School and graduated from Emmett Scott High School in 1953. She gave her heart to the Lord in the late 40s and attended the Church of the Living God where she participated in many church activities, including Sunday school, and the youth choir.
She married her late husband, Sederick T. Green in Tyler, Texas, and move to Dallas Texas where they made their home. The Lord bless them with two children, Shalimar, Rene’ Green- McCuin and Mark Christopher Green. This family united with the Community Bible Church on Hendricks in Oak Cliff in the early 60s where she served as church secretary and director of the senior choir for many years.
Mrs. Green received her RN diploma from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas, her Bachelor of Science from Dallas Baptist University and her Master of Science degree from Abilene Christian University. She was the author of two published books “East Texas Daughter” and “Running in the Fourth Quarter” as well as several articles published in healthcare journals.
Mrs. Helen G Green was a loving mother and wife, a leader and trailblazer in her profession. She was the first black nursing student admitted to Methodist Hospital school of nursing in Dallas, the first black register registered nurse to serve as manager of a nursing unit at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, the first Black department Director at Timberland Psychiatric Center in Dallas and the first nurse executive at Dallas Metro care MHMR system in Dallas after her retirement, Commissioner John Wiley Price appointed her to the board of trustees at Dallas Metro-care in Dallas, Texas, where she served three terms.
She leaves the legacy of morality, Unimaginable strength, good and noble character, and a tenacious aptitude for achievement. Her life was real and was guided by clear distinctions between writing wrong stemming, basically from her personal relationships with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her uncompromising life served as a beaming light and model for the women of this day. She was a born leader and her head often in the clouds, but her feet were planted solidly on the ground. She never forgot our principles her duty has a mother and her obligation to her family as she traveled upon this earth.
Mrs. Helen G Green is survived by her two children; Shalimar McCuin and Mark Christopher Green, her grandchildren; Kasey Mitchell, Andrea Green, Erica Robinson and Christopher Green, great- grandchildren; Joshua Hawley, and Olivia Cox, great- great- grandchildren; Layla and Nia Hawley, Colton and Kayden Green, One godchild Jeanette of Garland, Texas and a host of nieces, nephew's cousin's relatives and good friends.
Visitation will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Dallas, TX 75232, US, on March 4, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Dallas, TX 75232, US, on March 5, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A Graveside Service will follow at Laurel Land Mem Park - Dallas, 6300 S. R.L. Thornton Frwy., Dallas, TX 75232, US, on March 5, 2026, from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
