Helen graduated from Ursuline Academy and worked in St. Louis, where she met John L. “Jack” Salmon. She and Jack were married on June 5, 1954. In 1956, they moved to Dallas, Texas, where they became parishioners at St. Pius X Catholic Church, expanded their family and established roots.
Helen cherished her faith, family and friends. She attended daily Mass whenever possible and put her faith into action, advocating for those in need through her volunteer efforts at The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Ladies of Charity. Helen served in numerous capacities at St. Pius X Catholic Church and School and Bishop Lynch High School. She and Jack were devoted to each other for 44 years, thoroughly enjoying their family adventures. Helen was the proud mother of seven children; nurturing her family was her life’s work. She generously made many sacrifices to ensure each of her children received an excellent education. Helen made lifelong friends in her parish and neighborhood. These friendships brought her great joy. She had a passion for traveling, especially with Jack and her sister, Eileen. She enjoyed card games, including bridge and blackjack. Helen was a voracious reader, devouring numerous books every week and completing crossword puzzles daily. She was skilled at needlework and sewing, graciously outfitting her grandchildren with her creations.
Helen had a keen wit and a vibrant personality. She was stoic with an inner strength, accepting life’s challenges with grace. She was unyielding in her faith and set an example for all of us.
