Henry attended the Riverdale Country Day School in New York City and graduated from Adamson High School in Oak Cliff, Texas. Henry attended Austin College, Sherman, Texas, and also North Texas State College, Denton, Texas, now known as the University of North Texas. Henry enjoyed studying art, but hIs education was interrupted by serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1950-1953. He continued his service for his country in the US Army Reserves until 1957.
Henry worked in sales for many years. First at Sanger-Harris followed by West Map Company, Sharp Hardware, and then Wilson Plywood & Door Company, where he managed the warehouse.
Henry was a charter member of Wynnewood Presbyterian Church in Oak Cliff, Texas, and had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid collector of stamps and coins, as well as an extremely talented artist. Henry especially enjoyed drawing and painting portraits, along with photography. At various times he was on a bowling league, a billiards team, and was a dart club member. He traveled extensively in the US and Central America exploring Mayan ruins in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. He had a particular love for Belize. He also attended the 1967 World's Fair in Canada.
Henry loved nature, playing board games with family and friends, and was very patriotic, having a special love for the US presidents. He stood on the bank of the Hudson River and watched a flotilla celebrating the victory of World War II in 1946. He watched another victory parade with General MacArthrur, and he attended the opening of the Sam Rayburn Memorial Library in 1957. Henry saw President Harry Truman on West Jefferson in Oak Cliff riding in an open car. In 1963, while working in downtown Dallas, Henry was able to see the presidential motorcade on his lunch hour where he saw President John Kennedy and his wife, Jackie, just minutes before President Kennedy was shot and killed.
After his retirement, Henry made it a point to go to book signings where he met and shook hands with former Presidents Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, and George H. W. Bush.
Henry was preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette Elisabeth (Betty) Bennett Kroger and his father, Henry Berend Kroger, and one stepsister, Randolyn Ruby.
He is survived by a brother, Allen Bennett Kroger, and wife, Dawn, one nephew, Ben Kroger, and wife, Canda, and stepbrother, Darrell (Chip) Henson, and wife, Darlene.
We would like to thank the staff of the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, TX, for the love and care they gave Henry and the Hospice Staff who made his last days pleasant and painless.
