

Herbert (Hank) Philip Jacobs, was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 4, 1927 to Irving and Bessie Jacobs. He was reunited with his wife Nancy to be with their Lord on May 23, 2010. Herbert was a child of the Great Depression and a proud member of the Greatest Generation. Upon graduation from the aviation program at East New York Vocational High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during WWII. After returning from naval service, he attended City College of New York. With a love of flying, he joined American Airlines in 1955 and was based in New York. Herbert enjoyed a distinguished 38 year career, beginning as a Flight Engineer and ending as a Manager of Flight Operating Procedures in Fort Worth. His greatest career highlight was meeting his future wife Nancy, a stewardess, when they were working on the same flight. They were married on March 20, 1960 and were together for 47 years until her death in 2007. In 1966, Herbert and Nancy moved to Dallas/Fort Worth where they spent the next 24 years. The first years of retirement brought them to Boca Raton, Florida, but they always considered Texas home and returned in 2001 to live in McKinney. He was involved socially and politically in each community, including the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce Soccer Association, Republican Executive Committee of Palm Beach County, and the Jewish War Veterans. Herbert was a member of the Temple Shalom Dallas congregation. Herbert was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was predeceased by his mother and father, his son Jay, and his wife. He is survived by his son Mitchell and his wife Susan, son Robert, brother Alan, niece Lisa and her husband Joseph Lawless, and nephews Jeffrey, Clifford and Garret. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 11:30 am, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Rabbi Andrew M. Paley officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Association.
