Hershel Prengler, 90, died Saturday of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was born February 14, 1922, in Lukov, Poland to David and Rebecca Bernstein Prengler. Hershel, his mother, and four brothers, Sol, Israel, Mendel, and Aaron, arrived in the United States in 1947. His father and five siblings and their families had been murdered by Nazis during the war. Hershel and his surviving family had been hidden in a barn by a Polish family, the Konkos. The Prenglers settled in Dallas, where Hershel opened a clothing store. They stayed in touch with the Konkos and sponsored one of their sons when he immigrated to the United States. Hershel was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia Milder Prengler, his mother, and his brothers Sol and Israel. In addition to his brothers Mendel and Aaron and Aaron’s wife Jackie, he is survived by his daughter Dorothy and husband Charles Snakard of Dallas, his daughter Marilyn of Austin, his son Michael and wife Sharon of Los Angeles, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and multitude of nephews and nieces. His life embodied the American Dream. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dallas Holocaust Museum or a charity of one’s choice.
