Howard Lewis Creeks Sr. was the first son and third of twelve children, born to Dorothy Nell Creeks and Richard L. Creeks on February 11, 1954, in Dallas, Texas. He was educated in the Dallas Independent School District and proudly graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in the Class of 1972.
During his senior year, Howard met the love of his life, Virginia “Gail” Johnson. Their love blossomed quickly, and on August 27, 1977, they were united in holy matrimony. From this union, two sons were born: Howard, Jr. and Demarcus. As a devoted husband and father, Howard worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He was a true example of strength—physically, with his commanding presence; mentally, through his quick wit and sharp intellect; and emotionally, through his unwavering love for his family.
Howard began his professional career with the City of Dallas at an early age. Following many years of dedicated service, he embarked on a new journey with Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), where he eventually retired in 2015.
From an early age, Howard gave his life to Christ and was a faithful member of New El Bethel Baptist Church. He lived his faith daily—through his devotion as a husband and father, his love for family and friends, and his unshakable trust in God’s plan.
Howard had a wide array of hobbies. He enjoyed watching movies, chatting on the phone with his siblings, and in his younger years, he loved playing sports, listening to music, and shooting pool. A proud high school athlete, he played football and was also a member of the swim team. One of his simple joys in life was indulging in sweets—give him a cold soda and a hunk of cake, and you’d see his face light up with joy.
Though life brought its share of pain and illness, Howard faced every challenge with grace and dignity. On September 17, 2025, he completed his earthly race and heard the voice of the Lord say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Gail Johnson Creeks; his parents, Richard and Dorothy Creeks; brothers, Jaunel (Robbie) and Wayne Creeks; and sister, Nell Yvonne Creeks Hamm.
Howard leaves behind a legacy of love through his sons. Howard Creeks, Jr. (Rebecca) and Demarcus Creeks. He is also survived by his siblings, Lora Hopkins, Richard Creeks (Brenda), Eric Creeks, Sr. (Pat), Timothy Creeks (Doretha), James Creeks, Vernetta Creeks, Alvin Creeks, and Joseph Creeks.
Additionally, he leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.
