Irene Pence Moulton passed away at 89 years old on December 28, 2025. Irene was a friend to many and known to all as funny, fashionable, and kind. Her joyful, sociable, and vibrant nature will be carried on by those closest to her.
Irene was born on January 14, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska to Forest and Ann Rorick, the third of four girls. Irene graduated from University of Nebraska at Omaha (1957), followed by a master’s in business education from Arizona State University. In 1957, she married her college sweetheart, Brad Pence.
Married for 63 years, Irene and Brad lived most of their lives in Dallas where they raised their son Mark and daughters Laurie and Lisa. While raising children, Irene was a valiant tennis player winning multiple club championships at Brookhaven and Bent Tree country clubs. She won her most recent championship at 60 years old! Irene gave her time to many philanthropic endeavors and organizations. She served for many years on the National Executive Board for Chi Omega as well as on the Board of the Special Care Center.
Irene was an accomplished author, publishing four true crime books in just six years— all in her 60s! She won the Dallas Morning News' Golden Pen Award and is also published in Business Education Journals.
Throughout her life, Irene appreciated and cultivated beauty. Her home was always beautifully decorated and adorned in artwork, her style was full of color and sparkle, and her holidays were ornate and joyful. She was known for bringing friends and family together to make beautiful memories.
Irene also appreciated beauty and culture around the world as an avid world traveler. In her final days, Irene reminded her daughters and grandchildren to see as much of the world as they possibly could.
Irene’s final years were incredibly rich. At 85, Irene married Phil Moulton, whom she had known for over 60 years. Irene and Phil shared a passion for travel and took nine cruises together, including a cruise to Antartica which allowed Irene, at age 87, to accomplish her life goal of traveling to all seven continents. Irene and Phil were excellent partners in many ways, including as bridge partners. They won first place for their skill level in a National Bridge tournament just last year.
Irene is survived by her husband Phil Moulton, her daughters Laurie Pence Johansen and Lisa Pence Kittrell, and her six grandchildren Keith, Kara (now Constantine), and Kimberly Johansen, Taylor and Morgan Kittrell, and Janelle Pence Hill. She is also survived by her younger sister Gloria Bennett Zinn and many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as her many dear friends across her life in Ventana, Dallas, and beyond.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s honor to Genesis Women’s Shelter.
