Irene Hannah Trigg Myers lived fully, humbly, and gracefully for 75 years. While on this earth she accomplished many things. However, her greatest accomplishment was the role that she played not only as a matriarch to the community but to her family. Her life was anchored in service as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. It was in these responsibilities where she took the most pride and joy in.
Irene entered this earthly life on March 15, 1943 to the parentage of Robert and Wilma Trigg. She was the oldest of three daughters. Irene accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the young age of 11 where her faith in the Lord was guided by her pastor Reverend Hall at the Mount Rose Baptist Church in Bastrop, TX. It was in the Bastrop Independent School District where she received her formal education.
Irene married Oliver Myers, affectionately known as Mike, on April 17, 1960.
Irene was well known for her leadership and property management skills all over the state of Texas. Her reputation for having a passion for assisting families is what inspired her to start her journey in management. Her life of community service began at St. James Manor from 1973 to 1978. She then relocated to Temple, TX to manage property at Waymon Manor from 1978 to 1980. Shortly after completing this work assignment she moved back to Dallas where she would live for the remainder of her life. From 1980 to 2007 she served as property manager at Peoples El Shaddai and Pythian Manor. Irene not was not only a property manager but an advocate of fair housing practices for families in need. She fought tirelessly for safe, decent, sanitary housing conditions throughout Dallas County. Her advocacy led her to lobby for change for low-income housing and affordable housing on many levels. In her time of service she achieved many things. One of Irene’s accomplishments was that she was a charter member and actively served on the Board of Directors for the Dallas, Ft. Worth Assisted Housing Management Association of North Texas (AMHA). Another one of her other notable accolades was receiving her Fair Housing Certification which helped her receive above average reviews from the Housing and Urban Development Board (HUD). She also earned over 20 Housing Certifications and attended multiple trainings throughout her years in the profession. She really loved her job and made some life time friends at all her locations until she retired (some didn’t like her management style but they soon got over it).
Even after retirement, Irene was still devoted to carrying out her life’s mission in being of service to communities and families in need. Her philanthropic heart and efforts led Irene to volunteer her time to many organizations in Dallas, TX. However, it was when her son Kirk founded Abounding Prosperity that she truly found her second home. It is here where not only her son was reminded of her motherly nature, but the community at large instinctively became “her babies” as she naturally stepped in as the mother figure to the staff and the clients of the agency. In fact, her own life’s mission and dedication to family is anchored in the mission of Abounding Prosperity.
Irene enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She called it her labor of love, or cooking with love. Even in the details and love that she put into her yard she put just as much appreciation into her look. She made it a point to make a “grand entrance” to any event wearing the most stylish and lavish hats coupled with her more than stylish handbags and garments. She loved a beautiful yard with plenty of flowers of all colors and origins. On the properties she managed she would always leave touches of her “green thumb” to the overall look. She was always big on “Curb Appeal.” She always stressed the importance of beautiful surroundings and presentations in all things. Little did she know these would be traits that would carry over into her children’s personalities as well.
Even in accomplishing all these great things, Irene still was committed to serving the Lord as she had always done. From 1973 until her health failed her she was a member of Beth Eden Baptist Church where her leadership and spiritual counsel came from the late Reverend James Gaston. She served on as President of the Usher Board for many years and was also part of the table ministry, women ministry, and the caring ministry.
Irene is preceded in death by her mother and father, Robert (son), her two sisters Beverly and Diane, and her husband Mike.
Irene leaves to honor and cherish her memory her children; Michal A. Myers (son), Kenneth W. Myers (son), Kelvin D. Myers (son), Kirk D. Myers (son), and Michelle A. Myers (daughter). She leaves behind one nephew Jason L. Trigg and one aunt Virginia McIntosh. She also leaves five grandsons; Michael Nickerson, Donielle (Donnie) Nickerson, Kyron Myers, Kyle Myers, Xavier Myers. She also leaves behind four great grandsons and a host of family and friends.
