

Irving Ellis, 92, of Amarillo, Texas, died Friday August 13, 2010 at Ware Memorial Care Center in Amarillo, Texas. He was born April 9, 1918 in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and was an accomplished pianist. He spent his career as the owner of American Scrap Iron and Metals in Amarillo. He served as a Corporal in the Army Air Force. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Palo Duro Lodge 1239 of Amarillo, belonged to the Scottish Rite in El Paso, Texas and the Khiva Shriners in Amarillo. He was an avid golfer and card player at Tascosa Country Club and enjoyed traveling throughout his life. He was predeceased by his parents Phillip and Fanny Ellis of Fort Worth; three brothers, Paul, Jack and Max; wife, Miriam Ellis Kern Schlesinger; son, Larry Ellis of Dallas; wife, Edna Ruth Katz Ellis of Amarillo and stepson, Donald Katz of New York. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Gould of Waltham, Massachusetts, and stepdaughter Loyce Katz Sparkman of Lubbock, Texas, as well as nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
