Nothing gave him more pleasure than wearing his tuxedo to each grandchild's birth. He absolutely loved all his dogs and granddogs: Topsy, Scooter, Parkay, Max, Clara, Gus, Lily, Gertie, Bailey, Daisy, Penny, Connor, Gracy, Violet, and Truman. He considered them family members. For many years of his life, James enjoyed researching and collecting numerous books about The Texas Rangers. Sparked by events as a young boy in the 1940's, he got to meet many of the Ranger Captains who visited their home frequently to see his father, an Honorary Texas Ranger. James was also named an Honorary Texas Ranger.
