James Jay Walker

James Jay Walker, lovingly known as “Papa,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in East Dallas. Born on February 12, 1937, in Minnesota to Lenore and Fred Walker, James was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved brothers John and Russell Walker, and his cherished son, James "Jimmy" Patrick Walker.

James proudly served his country after being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. A skilled sharpshooter, he served honorably for 15 months—an experience that shaped his strength, resilience, and quiet dignity.

He is survived by his devoted wife of many decades, Patricia J. Walker; his loving daughter Christy Alexander and her husband Stan; his granddaughter Lauren Kannady, who was also his live-in caregiver and a constant source of support and joy in his later years. He is also survived by two grandchildren from his late son Jimmy: Kellie Donahue and Eric Walker, who lovingly knew him as Papa.

A cornerstone of the St. Pius X Church and a proud pillar of the East Dallas community, James was known for his deep faith, consistent service, and famous pecan pies. His kitchen was often the heart of family gatherings, filled with warmth, love, and laughter.

James led a full and active life. He was an avid reader of mystery thrillers, rarely missed his early morning gym routine—no matter the weather or season—and found peace and happiness in fishing and golfing, two of his favorite pastimes.

James leaves behind a legacy of faith, discipline, humor, and love. His wisdom, work ethic, and the gentle strength he carried through life will live on in all who were blessed to know him.

A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. The burial will follow for family and close friends to gather in remembrance of the man who meant so much to so many.
