

She was born on January 7, 1916, in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Her parents were George Alexander and Lucy Van Horne Sawyer. Her three brothers Ted, Hugh, and Tom served in the Army, Navy, and Marines during World War II. The Sawyers had come to Nebraska from Vermont and England.
The Van Horne family came from New York and Holland. The Bickel family came to Nebraska from Pennsylvania and Germany.
A loyal University of Nebraska Cornhusker, she majored in music education, graduating in 1938. She was President of her Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
She married Myron Overton Bickel of Lincoln, Nebraska, on August 8, 1938.
Her husband Myron pursued a career in law at the Nebraska Commonwealth Company, founded by his father. Clarence H. Bickel, and in the life insurance business. After completing naval service and living in Chicago, the Bickels spent 13 years in Galveston, Texas, and four years in Houston, Texas, before moving to Dallas in 1965.
Jane was active in the Junior League and her sorority in Galveston, Houston, and Dallas. She played golf and social bridge and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was a member of the Galveston Artillery Club and Bent Tree Country Club. She and her husband Myron were active travelers in the U.S. and abroad, and were parishoners of Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston, St. John the Divine in Houston, and St. Michael and All Angels in Dallas.
She is survived by son Stephen Bickel and wife Linda, son David Bickel and wife Nancy-Marshall, granddaughters Alexandra Bickel, Maria Kennedy and husband Tom, Nancy Shanfelt and husband Brad, Stephanie Bingham and husband John, Loretta Bickel, and Valerie Lord and husband Eric. Her great grandchildren are Grace Anne, Hugh Alexander and Sorel Jane Kennedy and Charlotte Marie, Benjamin Stephen, and Madeline Kay Bingham.
Services will be held in Chapel East at Hillcrest Mausoleum at 1pm on November 7, 2015.
