Born June 30, 1933, in Columbus, Ohio to Dr. Leonard and Gladys Howard. The Howard family soon moved to Miami, FL.
Janet graduated from Peter & Paul HS and went on to graduate from University of Miami.
After graduation, she began working for Delta Airlines and enjoyed traveling to other countries. While she was in France, she met and married Lt. Col. Ralph Hanson, who was stationed there with the Air Force.
They were married 35 years before Ralph passed away in 1992. Before his passing, they were longtime members of the Fort Worth Boat Club. They enjoyed sailing around Eagle Mountain Lake with the family, and Jan often worked on the Race Committee for the sailboat races.
Jan had a talent for playing the piano and passed on her love of music to her three daughters. She was a truly gifted artist, especially with watercolors, and many of her works are hanging proudly in her daughter’s homes.
Jan was a loving Mom who always made you feel special, was a great listener, and gave the best advice, a true role model. She loved her grandbabies and played a huge role in raising them. Her love for Ralph lasted until she passed, he was the love of her life.
Survivors include daughters Carolyn Pakes (Mike), Patricia Bengtson (Dwight), and Christine Alfieri (Mark), Sisters Suzanne Fleming and Mary Lou Atkinson, and her grandchildren Matthew Pakes, Brian Pakes, Mary Kate Efird, and Emily Leamy.
Memorial contributions are welcome to Alzheimer Association, alz.org.
