Janice "Jan" Dalene Howard (Noah) Barr passed away surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 18, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Beryl Ann Willingham (Howard) Baker and Jack R. Howard, Jan was raised by her loving and giving stepfather, Cecil H. Baker, whom she affectionately called "Bubba."
Jan was an exceptional student, graduating from South Oak Cliff High School in 1967 and El Centro College in 1968. She was a woman of determination and strong will, traits she demonstrated by excelling in all her school activities and courses. A very avid reader, she also loved arts and crafts. At just 14, she began working from home, addressing envelopes for businesses, and by 17, she was working downtown and commuting on the City Bus.
As a young woman, Jan was an avid roller skater, loved her Barbies, and was a gifted musician. She played the French horn and was a talented pianist. She was also one of the best majorettes—she could twirl and throw a baton like no one had ever seen before. In the 1960s, she was voted the Dallas Morning News Miss Big D, and even posed for a Coca-Cola ad that was turned into posters scattered all over town.
Jan had a special way of turning a regular story into a captivating tale, adding picturesque detail that would leave you thoroughly entertained. She also had an incredible work ethic, always working harder than anyone else. This strong determination and strong will became her way of showing love and trying to help all those she cared about.
Jan married Victor Noah in 1968, whom she believed to be the love of her life. From this marriage came her daughter, Shannan Dalene Noah. Tragically, Victor was lost to injuries sustained in Vietnam at the age of 26. Jan later married A.T. Barr in 1978, a kind man and stepfather.
Jan loved her family, including her sister Joyce, her daughter Shannan, granddaughter Hailee Noah Grimes, and her soon-to-be great-grandchild, who is due in October 2025. She also loved her trips to New York City while working at A.J. Bart.
Jan leaves to cherish her precious memories: sister Joyce L. Baker; daughter Shannan Dalene Noah; granddaughter Hailee Noel; stepbrother Gary Howard; and sister-in-law Pam Howard.
Jan will forever be remembered for her love and dedication to her family. Her love leaves an indelible imprint on the lives of all those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed.
