

He was an important member of the Dallas Petroleum Community. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague, to all that knew and loved him.
He was born on June 26, 1938 in Grant Parish, Louisiana to Claude Milver and Hazel Deen Box.
After graduating from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, Louisiana Jerry attend Louisiana Tech University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduating with a mathematics degree he joined the United States Air Force and attend officer training in Waco, Texas, where he became a navigator. After serving in the Air Force for five years, he chose to leave the military and return to Louisiana Tech for his masters degree in Petroleum Geology. When his masters was completed he went to work for Sun Oil Company in Beaumont, Texas. He remained with Sun and its related companies throughout his entire career, rising to the rank of President and COO of Oryx Energy before he retired. He represented the Dallas Petroleum Community serving on many boards and committees. Among them were: President of the Dallas Petroleum Club, board member of the Dallas Museum of Natural History, Chairman of the Board for Newpark Resources, and board member of Cimerex Energy. Other memberships and accomplishments include with Northwood Country Club and The Wildcatters. Jerry had the privilege to attend Harvard University’s Executive Education Program.
Jerry is survived by: wife of 59 years, Marianna Burt Box of Dallas, TX; his is children Mandy Paxton and Burt Box; his grandchildren, Austin Paxton, Drew Paxton, McCoy Box, Durham Box, and Callaway Box of Dallas, TX; his sisters Claudine Sonnier of Jackson, MS, and Jan Wolfe of Marshall, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on April 14th at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 15th in the funeral home chapel. Private entombment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
