

Jo Alice Guerin, born in Little Rock, Arkansas on January 18, 1936 to Joseph and Alice Maryman. Jo’s mother was the great granddaughter of James Sevier Conway, the first governor of Arkansas and was also a descendant of General John Sevier Conway, the first governor of Tennessee, and General Harry Conway who served with General George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Jo graduated from Byrd High School, Shreveport, La. In 1953; Attended Edgewood Park Junior College, Briarcliff, N.Y. 1953-1954; then to University of Arkansas 1954-1955 where she was inducted into Pi Phi and elected Saint Patricia, Engineering School Queen; Transferred to SMU in 1956. Was named President of the Neiman Marcus College Board; was on the SMU Modeling Squad; a Rotunda Beauty; Pi Phi rush Chairman; National College Queen 1956; Mardi Gras Ball Beauty; Honorary ROTC Cadet Colonel; SMU rep to the Cotton Bowl; Starred in several SMU Arden Club plays including Philadelphia Story, Anastasia and Arms and The Man. After graduation Jo became active in many Dallas civic and social organizations; The Junior League, Big Sisters, Children’s Medical Center, DAR, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts League, Crystal Charity, Les Femmes du Monde, Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, Dallas Garden Club, Susan Komen Foundation, Dallas Heritage Society, Flora Awards, Dallas Civic Opera, Dallas Arboretum Women’s Council. She was named Best Dressed by Crystal Charity in 1984, 1985 and 1986; and elected to the Best Dressed Hall of Fame in 1987. Jo was a member of the Board of Governors of the Dallas Women’s Club; a member of Lida Spragins Review Club; Pierian Junior Club; Seneca Review Club; Book and Drama Club; Heritage Club; Calliope Club; Tres Jolie Dance Club; Dallas Dinner Dance Club; Redotto Dance Club; Rave Reviews and Mes Amies. Jo and her husband, Dean, sailed the Caribbean for many years on their yacht “Arbitrage”, were avid skiers and world travelers. Jo is survived by her two sons Mark and Stephen, two daughter-in-law’s, Lee and Cori, and six beloved grandchildren, Caroline, Haley, Shay, Georgia, Alexander and Julienne. A Memorial Service will be on Friday, April 29, 2016, 2:00pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel with a reception to follow in the Bill Sparkman Family Lounge.
