Joan Roth Beck

Joan Idelle Roth Beck was born February 16, 1934 in Marshall, Texas. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family January 9, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Joan grew up in Marshall where her father was a cotton broker. She moved to Dallas where she graduated from Highland Park High School. She attended the University of Texas where she was a member of AEPhi sorority. She graduated from secretarial school and worked as an assistant at Mobil Oil for many years until she started her family. In 1955, she met the love of her life, Dr. Jay Beck to whom she was married these past 60 years. Joan is survived by her husband, Jay; children Michael and Patrice Beck of Dallas, Gary and Susie Beck of Paden, Oklahoma, and Pam and Steven Pluss of Dallas; grandchildren Joel and Miles Beck, Chase and Ashley Leggett, Molly and Henry Pluss; great grandchildren Julian and Benjaymn Leggett; and nephew Lee Roth. Joan is preceded in death by her parents Aaron and Inez Roth, her brother and sister-in-law Alan and Barbie Roth, her nephew Andy Roth and niece Vikki Roth. Joan loved to have fun, travel and entertain. She had many close friends with whom she spent a lifetime making memories as they raised their families and vacationed together. She enjoyed going to the beach, ski trips, and driving her convertible. She spent years volunteering at Greenhill School and served as Parent Association President in 1977. Joan was always dressed fashionably and never left the house without doing hair and make-up first, no matter what was going on each day. She would do anything to help out when asked and would fight ferociously on behalf of her children. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and a true friend. She will be missed by many but most of all her family. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 13 at Sparkman Hillcrest's Northwest Highway Chapel at 2:00 pm followed by a graveside service.
