

John W. McLeod, Sr., 85, of Dallas, passed away on June 2, 2010. John was born in Pineview, Georgia to Grover and Imogene McLeod on February 27, 1925. He went to Pineview High School, and subsequently graduated with a degree in business from the University of Georgia. He married the love of his life, Nancy Teter McLeod, and they had four children John W. McLeod, Jr., Stephen M. McLeod, Dana J. Bower, and Paul G. McLeod. He worked in the corrugated box industry for many years, co-founding Lone Star Corrugated Container Corp., Lone Star Container Sales Corp., Capital City Container Corp., Drake Container Corp., Apollo Paper Co., and Dixie Reel & Box Co., among other companies , but also enjoyed hunting and fishing in North America and Africa. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Air Force with the 5th Air Force, 90th Bomb Group, the “Jolly Rogers,” 319th Squadron, Asterperious, in the Pacific Theater until 1945. He served on the “Toni Seven” B-24 Liberator. He flew over 40 missions, and he was awarded many medals, including the Asia Pacific Theater Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. John is preceded in death by his older sister, Cleo Wagner Confair. John is survived by his wife Nancy Teter McLeod, his older sister, Sue Stone of Pineview, Georgia, as well as his children John W. McLeod, Jr. and wife Paula T., Stephen M. McLeod, Dana J. Bower, Paul G. McLeod and wife, Kelley M., son-in-law, George D. Bower, and grandchildren Adam W. McLeod, Leah C. McLeod, Drue E. McLeod, Aaron W. Bower, Austin H. McLeod, and Kate Marie McLeod. He is also survived by many much-loved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rita Catholic Community Church, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, TX 75244, on Wednesday, June 9th, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Charities or Shelter Ministries of Dallas will be appreciated. John will be missed by his family and friends.
