John graduated from Richardson High School in 1967. He attended Tyler Junior College and Dallas Baptist University. He retired from the Texas National Guard Reserve after 20 years of dedicated service. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years at the Dallas Main Post office and DFW Airport. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Texas Rangers fan. He was well versed in the history of the game and loved his past time.
Survivors: Loving wife of 20 years Sally Hodges Poer, son; Steven Poer, parents; Aileen and Marvin F. Poer, brother; David L. Poer and his wife Kerry, nephews Wesley and Kyle Poer, niece Laney Poer Booher and husband Brandon as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in ‘law’s, cousins and friends who considered it a privilege to know and love John.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday March 1, 2012 from 6-8 p.m., Funeral Service will be Friday March 2, 2012 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m.; 11122 Midway Road, Dallas, TX, burial will be Saturday March 3 at Old Union Cemetery in Simms, Texas at 2:00 p.m.
