

Joseph Francis Cattorini, 92, passed away on Monday, January 27th, 2025. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 12, 1932. He graduated from Morgan Park Military Institute in June of 1949 and from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1953.
Upon graduation, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He graduated from USAF Institute of Technology with a M.S. in Armament Engineering in 1955 and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. As a Captain, he married Reba Jordan on January 1, 1955, and raised 4 children: Michael Leslie Mangan, Denise Diane Cucunato, Rebecca Annette Shackelton, and Jeffrey Francis Cattorini MD.
His commission changed to Wright Patterson AIr Force Base in 1958, where he worked at National Cash Register for 25 years in Dayton Ohio, helping to invent modern bar code scanning in the early 1970's. He moved to Florida in 1983, developing many patents related to laser printing technology and copying machines while at Documation, Storage Technology Corporation, and AB Dick. He retired in 1997, moving to Highland Park in Dallas, Texas where he enjoyed caring for his family, writing short stories, painting art, international and domestic travel, and happy hour.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Burdine Jordan Cattorini and son, Michael Leslie Mangan. He is survived by three of his children, 3 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
A private family Graveside Service with military honors will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
