

Josephine A. Hebda, 92, of Highland Village, TX formerly from Whiting IN, passed away on May 19, 2012 at her home. Prior to her years in Highland Village and Flower Mound, TX, she lived in Whiting, IN for 76 years. She was a former member of St Adalbert Catholic Parish and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Whiting, IN. She currently was a member of Mater Dei Catholic Church. For the past 4 years she was in residence at St. Joseph’s Residence in Dallas, an assisted living community staffed by Bethlemite Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Marie Gallagher; son-in-law, Thomas W. Gallagher: loving and faithful granddaughter Mary Anna Salas and her husband James, and by her grandsons Thomas Henry, John Joseph, and Michael Patrick Gallagher. She is also survived by brother, Walter Murzyn of Austin Texas. She was preceded in death by brothers, Stanley S. Murzyn and John J. Murzyn Jr., father, Jan Murzyn Sr., and mother, Maria Murzyn (Skora). Josephine was born on March 9, 1920 in Whiting, IN. She attended St. Adalbert Catholic Grade School and Hammond Technical High School. After graduating she worked in the Notions counter at the Newberry Five-and-Ten in Whiting. During the evenings she attended Hammond Business College, graduated, and was hired by the Northern Indiana Public Service Company. After working in the Hammond office as a typist for two years she was promoted to a secretarial position and transferred to the Gary office where she worked for the next five years. Upon the death of her mother she left NIPSCO to assist her dad and help raise her young brother. She returned to work in the Treasury Department of the Hammond City Hall for a number of years where she handled the payroll for the entire Hammond Indiana City Administration. Upon the birth of her daughter she chose to remain at home to take care of her family and her dad.
In 1996 she and her husband moved to Flower Mound, Texas in order to be near her daughter and the grandchildren. Josephine will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, and Babcia (grandmother) to her beloved grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Ln, in Dallas. A rosary will be said at 7 pm during open visitation. A Requiem Mass will be said Friday at 10 am, May 25, 2012 at Mater Dei Catholic Church, 2030 East Highway 356, Irving, TX 75060, by Rev. Philip Wolfe, F.S.S.P. Burial will follow Saturday at 11 am at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
