

She was a 1970 graduate of Ursuline Academy of Dallas and attended The University of Texas in Austin, graduating as a proud Longhorn with her B.A. in 1973. She worked many years at the office of Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts in Austin. Joyce also worked for Unisys, which was the main contractor at NASA for the space shuttle, where she was responsible for developing and enforcing software security roles for all of the shuttle development computers. She was also a certified paralegal and worked in the Criminal Division of the Tarrant County District Clerk’s Office as well as an assistant in the Judicial Staff Counsel Office of Tarrant County.
She loved spending time with her family and socializing with her numerous friends. Joyce also loved activities such as playing pickleball, biking around White Rock Lake, sewing, fishing in Alaska, traveling, and UT Longhorn football. Joyce knew no strangers and drew people to herself with her fun spirit and generous heart. She loved to volunteer and serve others and her life reflected that attitude of service.
Joyce is survived by her partner in life, Paul Freeman; her son, Kerry Dean (Julie); daughter, Annie Baker (Marcus); and her son, Taylor Crowe (Scott Janicek). She is also survived by her father, Charles J. Meyer; her sisters, Martha Meyer and Jeannie Wood; and her brothers Danny Meyer (Dawn), Peter Meyer (Kathryn) and Justin Meyer (Rosario). She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia; her brother, Henry; and her mother, Jeanne Hickey Meyer. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Clara and Georgia Dean, as well as several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and a grandniece.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home located at 10501 Garland Rd, Dallas, TX. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church located at 9643 Ferndale Rd, Dallas, TX. Reception to immediately follow the service at The KayCee Club at 10110 Shoreview Road, Dallas, TX. The family requests that In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your charity of choice.
