

Born July 7, 1925 in Indianapolis as the only child of Harry and Gertrude DeCroes, Kathy grew up in Indiana, attended university at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri, and graduated as valedictorian from Bradley University in 1948, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was married to Glenn D Bruce of Peoria, Illinois, her husband of 47 years who passed away in 1995.
Kathy was a longtime member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, where she received the Heritage Award in 1996 for her committed service. She sang alto in the choir for over 40 years and played saxophone and clarinet in the Jazz and Dixieland bands in church. She is a past-president of United Methodist Women and served on numerous committees and campaigns. Her commitment to biblical literacy led her to serve 11 years as a Bethel Bible Study leader and teacher of teachers.
Through the years Kathy was an active volunteer, from PTA president to Girl Scout leader to Sunday school teacher. She held various offices in her local community, Sparkman Estates of Dallas, where she resided 48 years.
She is survived by her 3 children, Deborra Murphy of Richardson, Diane Davis of Tyler, and Dana Bruce of Rockwall; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren—and 2 more on the way.
Following private burial at Sparkman Hillcrest in Dallas, a Memorial Service celebrating her life and home going will be held Saturday, December 22, at 3:00 p.m. in the Tom Shipp Chapel of Lover’s Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Rd. at Northwest Highway in Dallas.
