Ms. Katie Lee Hammonds

Katie Lee Hammonds was born in Moody, Texas on October 14, 1942. She lived and worked in Dallas, Texas for almost 40 years. She was 79 years old when she returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

Katie was a true example of having a servant's heart. Her acts of kindness are recorded in heaven. Most importantly, she prayed the sinner’s salvation prayer and accepted Christ as Savior of her life. She seemed perfectly made without any sin, but we know all have sinned. Aunt Katie was truly a godly woman.

She was a loyal member of Greater Providence Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas for decades. Before moving to Dallas in the seventies, she was a member of Peaceful Rest Baptist Chruch in Moody, Texas.

• She carried the burdens of others who were sick and unable to do for themselves (Galatians 6:2)

• She was compassionate and caring towards others with acts of kindness daily (Hebrews 13:16)

• She loved as Christ commanded and worked unto the Lord (John 15:12)

• She gave to others even when she was not treated right, and it was difficult (Matthew 5:24)

• She gave to the poor in health and probably didn’t think about getting repaid (Proverbs 19:17)

• She looked out for the best interests of others and put herself second (Philippians 2:4)

• She saw the sick, hungry, thirsty, and naked and helped them in time of need (Matthew 25)

A woman with a quiet spirit and few words, A woman with a keen ability to see life with wisdom. Some may have considered her gentle spirit as a weakness, but it was actually her secret strength. Those who knew her well recognized her ability to size up a person and keep a smile on her face.

Those who knew her as Aunt Katie might have caught her on occasions talking or laughing to herself when she thought nobody was around. It became apparent that she was in her right mind, but wise enough to not tell everything she was thinking about a person or situation. Aunt Katie probably had many conversations with the Lord in private. Aunt Katie knew how to bridle the tongue (James 3: 1-12) and was often a peacemaker. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9).

Katie Lee graduated from Belton High School. She received a CNA certification. Katie worked at Baylor Hospital for over 40 years as a Certified Nurse Aide caring for patients' needs.

After retirement, she dedicated her life to helping her family. Aunt Katie was a caregiver for her sister during a time of illness. After her sister transitioned to heaven, Aunt Katie became focused on helping to raise her three great nephews. Every weekday and some weekends for almost 14 years, she would rise early (Proverbs 31 Woman) to attend to them. Although she never married or had children, God gave her a place to be acting mom and grandmother. She made a huge imprint on their lives and wellbeing.

As the boys grew older, Aunt Katie decided she wanted to spend more time with her oldest niece, Crystal. Aunt Katie said, “I think Crystal needs me.” Actually, Aunt Katie needed Crystal. She was able to enjoy life and focus on herself.

Aunt Katie enjoyed making sweet memories in Jarrell, TX the past two years. Crystal Ann made time to do the things she loved. She loved fashion and Crystal took her shopping often. Crystal gave her breakfast in bed mornings and peaceful walks by the lakeside. Her favorite moments were getting manicures and pedicures. Aunt Katie was a quite fashion diva, but a classy fashion diva for sure. She was beautiful outside and inside. She loved the finer things in life. I am sure heaven has the finest of all that exceeds anything on earth.

Aunt Katie was preceded in death by both parents, Willie & Laura Jones Hammonds and her beloved sister, Clara Louise Hammonds Brown. Aunt Katie leaves to cherish her memories, her loving nieces Crystal Ann Brown Smith and April Jefferson (Ebony); her great nephews, Avery Ryan Pennywell, Ellington Adin Jefferson and Easton Aldin Jefferson and host of cousins and other relatives. Everyone should be fortunate to have an Aunt Katie. She has taught us that loving family unconditionally is a commandment and should be displayed in action. She set a high standard to love others and turn the other cheek. Family let us pay it forward and give as she gave family and community (her patient care).
