
Rouge on June 13, 2010, following a brief illness. He served in the US Navy from 1942-1946, attaining the rank of Lt. JG and
served on the Destroyer, the USS Leary. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Management and Finance, graduating second in his class. He attended Harvard Business School while serving in the Navy. He was a CPA and
won the John Burns-Allred Merit Award in 1955. He worked in the oil industry for many years and retired from American Petrofina as Vice-President. He was active in the Masons, serving as Master of Ceremonies for the 14th degree for 18
years, and also a Life Member of the Scottish Rite Masons. He was a resident of Dallas from 1950 until he moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in Baton Rouge in 2005, and he longed to return to Texas. He was a member of Lovers Lane United
Methodist Church in Dallas. Survived by daughter Margaret Byrd Culbertson and husband Pat Culbertson of Baton Rouge, LA, grandchildren, Ashley Atchison of Mandeville, LA and Geoff Culbertson and wife Maggie Riley Culbertson of Texarkana, TX, great- grandchildren Kate Atchison and Patton Culbertson, Chappell Culbertson and Riley Culbertson, sister-in law
Winona Byrd, niece Shirley Bradberry, and nephew Jimmy Byrd. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beulah Byrd and Melvin Byrd, first wife Pat McIlheran Byrd, second wife Elizabeth Miller Byrd, and brothers J.R. Byrd and Jessie Lee Byrd. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas on Thursday, June 17, 2010, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by entombment in the Mausoleum.
