Lanzce Maurice King, Sr. was born on November 21, 1992, in Dallas, Texas, to James A. King, Sr. and Regina L. Watkins (Walker-King). He was their youngest son. Lanzce grew up deeply rooted in faith and family. He attended Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, where he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and later joined Third Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. There, he served faithfully in the youth ministry, usher board, praise dance ministry, and choir until he left for college.
Lanzce began his education in the Dallas Independent School District, attending T.L. Marsalis Elementary and Atwell Middle School before moving to Cedar Hill Independent School District in 2006. He graduated from Cedar Hill High School in June 2011. While in high school, he was active in Student Council, Student Government, the ReadySetTeach program, and the Varsity Football Team. He was elected Senior Class Vice President, won the 2010 Cedar Hill Texas Trust Bank Debit Card Design Contest (where his design was featured on an actual debit card), and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Jaimie Clarice Moore.
After graduation, Lanzce and Jaimie attended Texas Tech University together, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Studio Art in May 2014. On campus, Lanzce’s leadership, creativity, and drive were evident. He was apart of the Texas Tech Red Raiders Football Team, served as President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., was an active PAC Leader in the Mentor Tech student mentoring program, a member and administrative assistant of the Chess Club, and an active participant in the National Pan-Hellenic Council (“Divine Nine”).
In January 2014, Lanzce began facing serious health challenges. Later that year, he was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) and ulcerative colitis. Despite his diagnosis, Lanzce never wavered in his faith. He continued to trust God’s plan and used his story to inspire others. In January 2016, he was ordained as a minister under Rev. Quincy Garcia and preached his first sermon shortly after, spreading messages of faith, perseverance, and gratitude.
Lanzce underwent two liver transplants — the first in April 2017 and the second in January 2021 — both of which he faced with extraordinary courage. Even through these trials, he continued to live life with joy, humor, and purpose.
He later attended UNTHSC to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, further deepening his passion for helping others. Lanzce was a devoted coach and educator, serving at The Oakridge School in Arlington, Texas, where he coached basketball, football, and track. His students and athletes admired his patience, encouragement, and ability to bring out the best in everyone he met.
Above all else, Lanzce’s greatest pride and joy came from being a husband and father. He and Jaimie shared more than 15 years together — built on love, faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a true partnership, grounded in friendship, prayer, and mutual respect.
Whether they were traveling for doctor visits, coaching on the field, or just laughing at home with the kids, their love remained steadfast — a reflection of the vows they lived every single day.
Together, they raised three beautiful children: Lanzce Jr., Maxwell, and Heidi – who were the heartbeat of his life. Lanzce poured his heart into fatherhood — coaching their teams, cheering from the sidelines, and teaching them lessons about faith, kindness, and resilience. Perseverance?
- Lanzce Jr. shares his father’s leadership, drive, and love for sports — always eager to make his dad proud.
- Maxwell carries his dad’s humor, curiosity, and bright energy, bringing laughter and light into every room.
- Heidi, his little princess, was his sunshine — her smile could lift his spirit no matter the day.
At home, he was known for his patience, playful spirit, and endless encouragement. Even in moments of weakness, Lanzce found strength in his family. His love for Jaimie and the kids was his motivation, his ministry, and his reason to keep fighting.
Through every season, Lanzce was a living example of strength, perseverance, and faith. Even in sickness, he radiated light and peace — proof of the grace and power of God working through him.
Lanzce leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Jaimie Clarice King; their three beloved children, Lanzce M. King, Jr., Maxwell J. King, and Heidi G. King; his parents, James A. King and Regina (Charles) Watkins; his siblings, James (Rosilin) King Jr., Kentavia King, Jalisa King, Rachel King, Sarah King, Antonio King, Omarr Watkins, and Denver Watkins; his parents-in-love, James and Leslie Moore; and his brother-in-love, James “Trey” Moore.
He is also survived by his grandparents and several aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, friends, fraternity brothers, and students who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. His love and legacy will continue to live on through Jaimie and their children, who will honor him every day through the love, courage, and strength he instilled in them.
