Laura May, known affectionately as “Ivy” to her three nephews, was born to Charles Thomas May, Jr. and Eleanor Sykes May, on March 4th, 1968 in Dallas, Texas. She attended St. Michaels and All Angels Elementary school and graduated high school from the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia. Laura then graduated from Southern Methodist University.
Laura followed her passion for the decorative arts and antiquities, attending the Sotheby’s Institute in England to further her education. She then purchased The Ivy House in 1999 which has become a staple in the bridal registry industry. After completing her recent remodel of the store, The Ivy House has become a Texas treasure and national source for fine table top appointments and bridal registries receiving recognition and awards for its achievements.
Laura lived courageously with chronic scleroderma, an aggressive autoimmune disease. She met each day with remarkable strength, grace, and determination. She was a devoted daughter, a stand-up sister, a dedicated aunt, and cherished friend. She was wise counsel, a thoughtful listener, a sage guide through life's challenges, and a witty storyteller.
She is survived by her mother, Eleanor May, brother, Sterling A. May, and her three loving nephews, Thomas III, Sterling Jr., and Warren.
