June 7, 1921 – October 28, 2013
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
This summarizes the life of Lewis Duca, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Lewis was born on June 7, 1921 in New Orleans, La to Pietro and Rosa Cortimilia Duca. He moved to Dallas when he was 3 years old where he lived the rest of his life. He is a graduate of Forest Avenue High School and attended Draughn’s Business College. After 43 years of faithful service, Lewis retired from Foster Wheeler (formerly Glitzsch, Inc.) as VP of Estimating. Lewis was a proud defender of his faith and his country. He was a charter member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Throughout his life, Lewis was a faithful member and was involved in many of the parish events, most notably his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. Lewis was proud to call himself a Scout and continued his service with the Boy Scouts even after his sons had graduated. He received many awards in Scouting, including the St. George Medal for outstanding contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in the Boy Scouts of America and The Silver Beaver Award. Lewis was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and loved leading the rosary for his fellow Knights. Those who knew Lewis well will rejoice knowing that he and the Tuesday Night Prayer Group members are all together again, sitting around the table.
First and foremost in his life was his family. He taught us unconditional love through his constant love and support. His family now carries his love forward.
Lewis is preceeded in death by his parents, brother Salvador Duca and sister Marie Duca DiCarlo.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Aline Degelia Duca, son Most Rev. Michael G. Duca, Bishop of Shreveport, daughter Rosanne Duca Dworaczyk (Bill), son James G. Duca (Cindy), and daughter Irene Duca Casburn (Mark). He is also survived by the loves of his life, his grandchildren: Andrew, David, Laura, Rebecca, Matthew, Rachel (Sam), Hannah, Annie and Sarah. Affectionately known as GG, he is also survived by great-granddaughter Lucia. Lewis is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
The family wishes to thank Marie Tate who has been faithful in bringing Communion to Lewis and Aline and to the staff at Emeritus @ Lake Highlands for their loving care of Lewis. He was humbled by your care and concern.
